Ashe Design for Morrison clothing

31 Mar 2011

I have been trying to find this image for ages – it is quite old now – from about 2004. A studio clean up finally revealed it’s hiding spot! It is a print which I designed and was sold to Morrison (you all know who Morrison is by now!) I can proudly say that Kylie Radford (Morrison Director/Designer) is a fellow Tasmanian….So many good things come out of Tasmania! Ha HaMorrison_1

Ashe “The Prints” Book!

28 Mar 2011

Oooooooh exciting! I have just got back my Ashe “The Prints” Books…and they are wonderful! I basically wanted to “wrap up” the textile design work I have completed prior to now. It’s been an enjoyable process to collate all my favourite prints together and package them so neatly. I’m about to clean about 30 silk screens off – so these prints will be archived for a while…perhaps they will come back to life at a later date…but for now…they exist only in this neat little book!Photobooks

Ashe Girl Illustrations

26 Mar 2011

To accompany the new prints I’m currently working on, I plan to create a series of fashion illustrations which depict the Ashe girl. This is an illustration I made earlier this year using two of my print designs – “Thea’s Frangipani” and “Morrison’s Flower”. See next blog for more about the “Morrison Flower” print….mag_Girl

Ashe design journals

21 Mar 2011

My trusty journal’s are full of ideas, sketches, schemes, plots and pictures…A quick sketch can capture the seed of a great idea…to quickly put it down in black and white so that I can return to the idea later and continue developing the threads….the initial sketch for the “waratah” image is here..along with cut outs and other scribbles…Desk_shot

Antipodean Orientalism

19 Mar 2011

Ashe textile designs have always been heavily influenced by Eastern cultures – particularly Japanese and Chinese textile traditions. Another constant for me has been an interest in Australian motifs of Flora and Fauna – although – these can be tricky to work with…I don’t want to create kitsch “Australiana”!…So I have a challenge in trying to design surfaces which both contain an Oriental aesthetic and a sense of contemporary Australian design…Here is a “waratah” image I am “orientalising”…Some more development needed….but it’s getting there!waratah

New Works for Ashe

17 Mar 2011

I’m very excited about the new work I’m creating at the moment. I’m completing my Masters Degree at Curtin University in Art, focusing on printed textiles. Being able to really focus on my area of specialisation, and having other great minds to help me along the way, is so valuable. As I progress through the work, I will post blogs to record my experimentation…I can’t wait to see where it goes…Moon_cards

Studio Glimpse

04 Mar 2011

This is a snap shot of my print table surface on the weekend…I began pulling out all my favourite fabric swatches and playing with them…arranging them into colourways and interesting combinations…This group of textiles are now set to become archived – as I am embarking on a new set of print images and all my old silk screens will get cleared off. Stay posted!fabric_squares
