Textile Designers at the Cutting Edge 2 – cover design by Ashe!
09 Oct 2012
Merrel Publishers chose an Ashe motif to design the front cover of “Textile Designers at the Cutting Edge 2″ – so I was thrilled. The publishers wanted something similar yet new for the cover – so this design is very similar to the first book. But then! The publishers decided that the book needed a new title – to stand on its own, rather than be a continuation of the previous book. I started thinking…”oh perhaps my designs will not make the cover of the new book.. :(” But then! Another most welcome email popped through…(see next blog)
Ashe design for Patrick McMurray
22 May 2012
Ashe was delighted to be able to design a silk tie for the Patrick McMurray label. Patrick’s Australia series was perfect for my “Cockatoos” print, seen here in the beautiful silk embroidery of this luxury tie. Hello Summer! My textile designs are always influenced by the seasons…by the changes in my own garden…the plants, insects and colours. Although snails are a bit of a problem at times in my garden, this new print features them anyway; in all their sluggish glory…hail to the snail…ENJOY the SUN!

Print design inspiration often comes in these moments of relaxation and re-creation…when we finally have time to see the sky….My holiday photos feature as many foliage shots as family photos! I never cease to be inspired by the graphic nature of Australian Flora.

This graphic image is a bit of a blend of old ashe campaign imagery…new photos of Ashe homeware pieces and me messing around in Photoshop. Pictured is the “Concept bench” which is an amazingly ornate baroque bench covered in leather – we have both black and white ones available at Ashe. Also – the large carved ornate mirror pictured are available in black and white in 2 different sizes. The dress is our classicgown – The “Babydoll”…see you soon!

Klaus Haapaniemi is a Scandinavian artist with a truly unique and imaginative design style. This image comes from his book “Monsters” which is a fully illustrated artist’s book filled to the brim with his delightful drawings and paintings. I particularly like his style because he uses pattern and repetition a lot in his work. His work has been commissioned by international fashion houses, magazines and product design companies. I think the best way to describle his work is “wild beauty”.
His book is published by Gingko Press – I got my copy from Outre Gallery in Melbourne.
Check it out!
